Throughout the film we constantly see children mistreated or left alone to raise themselves. Not only that but we see a lot of symbolism that suggests that the roles between children and adults are reversed. Such as Antoine being locked in jail while the police officers are playing a board game. So just give me your thoughts on this aspect of the film.
In my eyes, the whole jail scene seemed vastly different from the rest of the film. Antoine was always getting into trouble, but it was at this point that things were taken seriously by everyone involved. 'Taking things seriously' is not the same as doing things in the right way, of course. Sending a child off to a reformatory school without doing a background check on the parents? Assuming guilt? Putting said child into a holding cell with adult criminals & prostitutes? Not good.
